If you've been researching wedding guest photo sharing in the UK, you've probably come across both of us. Gather & Group and Wedding Photo Swap are the two most directly comparable options available to UK couples right now: both are British services, both charge a one-off payment, and both sit in a very similar price bracket. There's no American pricing in dollars, no Australian timezone doing customer support, and no recurring subscription to worry about.
So how do you choose between them?
We'll be honest: this isn't a post where we pretend to win every category. Wedding Photo Swap is a genuine, well-established service with a track record stretching back to 2009, and if certain features matter more to you than others, it might actually be the right choice. What we'll try to do here is lay out the real differences clearly, so you can make the call that suits your wedding.
Pricing and What's Included
Both services use a tiered, one-off pricing model with no subscriptions.
Wedding Photo Swap offers three tiers: a Free plan (limited to 50MB storage, and a 30-day window from sign-up), Gold at £29.99, and Platinum at £39.99. Gold covers six months of storage from your wedding date, unlimited photos, a QR code and private link, downloadable gallery, and the option to design a photobook. Platinum extends storage to twelve months and adds unlimited video uploads.
Gather & Group offers a Basic plan at £29 and a Premium plan at £49, both as a one-off GBP payment. Both paid tiers include QR code access, unlimited photos, UK-based data storage and smart quality filtering. The Premium plan extends your gallery window to 12-months and adds facial recognition amongst other features.
At first glance the prices are almost identical. The meaningful difference is what's included at each level: Gather & Group bundles facial recognition into the premium tier as, while Wedding Photo Swap's equivalent price point (Gold at £29.99) offers no AI features at all.
Facial Recognition
This is the most significant technical difference between the two services.
Gather & Group includes facial recognition on our premium plan. Every photo uploaded by your guests is automatically analysed and grouped by the people in it. If you want to see every photo your grandma appears in, you tap her face and they're all there, whether she's the main subject or just visible in the background of a group shot. Importantly, this processing happens locally on our UK servers. We don't send your photos or biometric data to Amazon, Google, or any other third-party cloud service.
Wedding Photo Swap does not offer facial recognition. At a large wedding, this means your gallery will be a flat, chronological collection of everything your guests uploaded. For a 200-guest wedding generating 600 or 800 photos, finding specific people means scrolling manually.
If face-organised galleries are important to you, this is a clear differentiator in Gather & Group's favour. If you don't mind a traditional gallery view, it's less relevant.
Smart Quality Filtering
Gather & Group automatically removes duplicates before they reach your gallery and can optionally filter out blurry shots. You don't have to wade through dark, unfocused shots someone took by accident with their pocket.
Wedding Photo Swap does not offer this kind of filtering. What guests upload is what you get. On the plus side, Wedding Photo Swap does preserve original photo quality without any compression, which is a genuine strength if you plan to print large (although Gather & Group also does this for both plans).
Whether automated filtering matters depends on your guests. A technically-minded crowd who take considered shots will produce less noise than a large family wedding where people upload everything. For bigger guest lists especially, curation tooling makes a real difference to how usable the final gallery is.
Data Residency
Gather & Group stores all photos on UK servers and processes facial recognition locally on our own infrastructure.
Wedding Photo Swap is a UK company (based in Crowthorne, Berkshire, trading since 2009), but their privacy policy does not disclose where photos are actually stored. They reference unnamed third parties used for photo hosting, but do not specify a country, region, or cloud provider. Their privacy policy was last updated on 25 May 2018, the day GDPR came into force, and has not been revised since (at the time of writing).
We want to be fair here: undisclosed hosting is common across many UK consumer services, and Wedding Photo Swap has not done anything obviously wrong. But if knowing your guests' photos sit on UK or EU soil matters to you, Gather & Group can confirm it explicitly and Wedding Photo Swap currently cannot.
Guest Experience
Both services are designed so guests never need to download an app. Guests scan a QR code, and upload straight from their phone browser. This is the right approach for weddings, where your 74-year-old uncle should be able to share his photos just as easily as your tech-savvy friends.
One genuine strength of Wedding Photo Swap is their sub-album feature. You can create separate albums for the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and hen or stag do, keeping everything organised by event. They also offer Guest Photo Challenges, which are prompts that nudge guests to capture specific moments throughout the day. Both are nice touches for couples who want a bit more structure.
Gather & Group's guest upload experience is designed to be as frictionless as possible, with a clean, mobile-first interface and the quality filtering running in the background so the couple receives a curated result rather than a raw dump.
Setup Time
Both services are designed for quick setup. Wedding Photo Swap claims couples can have their private album, QR code, and shareable link ready in under a minute, which is accurate based on their product. Gather & Group is similarly fast: you're set up and ready to share before you've finished your morning coffee.
Neither service requires technical knowledge or a lengthy onboarding process.
Customer Support
Gather & Group is a UK team. When you contact us, you're reaching someone in your timezone, and we aim to respond within one day (but usually quicker!).
Wedding Photo Swap is also UK-based (Berkshire). Their support is email-only, and their published SLA is five working days. That's a notably long response window for a consumer-facing service, and it's worth factoring in if you're likely to have questions close to your wedding day.
For urgent day-of issues, neither service offers live chat or phone support. But a one-day response window is meaningfully faster than five, especially in the weeks leading up to the wedding.
Who Should Choose Gather & Group?
Choose Gather & Group if you want facial recognition and quality filtering features built into your gallery from day one. If face organisation matters to you, if you want smart filtering to do the curation work automatically, and if you want confirmed UK data storage with a current privacy policy, Gather & Group was built for exactly that.
It's also the better fit if you're planning a larger wedding (100 guests and above) where the volume of photos makes manual browsing genuinely tedious, or if you're simply the kind of person who wants to know exactly where their data lives.

Who Should Choose Wedding Photo Swap?
Choose Wedding Photo Swap if sub-albums and structured event organisation are important to you, particularly if you're sharing photos across a rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception with different guest groups and you'd like to keep these separate. Their Guest Photo Challenges are also a nice way to prompt guests to capture specific moments.
Wedding Photo Swap's long track record (over 300,000 guests and four million shared moments across their history) is also genuinely reassuring if you're wary of newer services. They've been doing this since 2009.
The main caveats to go in with: their support SLA is five working days, their privacy policy hasn't been updated since GDPR came into force, and their hosting location is not publicly confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use both for the same wedding?
Technically yes, but it's not something we'd recommend. Splitting your guest photo collection across two platforms means a fragmented experience for you and, potentially, for your guests if they're unsure where to upload. Pick one and make it clear on your QR code table cards.
Which has better UK customer support?
Both services are UK-based, which is a genuine advantage over US and Australian competitors. The practical difference is response time: Gather & Group aims to respond within one day, while Wedding Photo Swap publishes a five-working-day SLA. For most routine questions this won't matter, but if you're troubleshooting something the day before your wedding, that gap is meaningful.
Are there any wedding sizes where one is better than the other?
For smaller, more intimate weddings (under 50 guests), the differences become less pronounced. Both services will collect your photos reliably, and the volume is manageable enough that manual browsing isn't painful.
For larger weddings of 100 guests or more, Gather & Group's facial recognition and smart filtering become noticeably more valuable. The difference between receiving a curated, face-organised gallery and receiving 800 unfiltered chronological photos is significant when you're actually sitting down to relive the day.
What happens to my photos after the wedding?
With Gather & Group, your gallery remains accessible for the duration covered by your plan. We'll notify you before anything changes, and you can download a full-resolution zip of your entire gallery, or export to your own cloud storage at any time.
With Wedding Photo Swap, Gold plan photos are accessible for six months from your wedding date and Platinum for twelve months. Their terms state clearly that cancelling your account will delete all content, and galleries do not revert to the free tier once a paid plan expires.
In both cases: download your full gallery well before the storage window ends. Don't rely on any online service as your sole backup of your wedding photos.
