Kululu Review: Features, Pricing & What UK Couples Should Know

If you have started looking for a way to collect photos from your wedding guests, you have almost certainly come across Kululu. It is one of the best-known names in event photo sharing, with a QR code that guests scan to upload their photos and a live slideshow that plays them on the big screen during the party.

But is it the right choice for a UK wedding? This is an honest look at what Kululu does well, what it costs, what real couples say about it, and where it falls short - so you can decide with your eyes open. What Kululu does well

Kululu has earned its popularity. A few things it genuinely gets right:

• The live photo wall. Kululu's signature feature is a live slideshow that displays guests' photos on a screen as they are uploaded. It is a lovely touch at a reception and the thing most people remember it for.
• No app for guests. Guests scan a QR code and upload straight from their phone browser - no download, no account. That is the single most important feature for getting photos back, and Kululu nails it.
• A free plan to try. You can create an event for free and see how it works before paying.
• It is genuinely easy. As their own tagline says, it is simple enough that even the least tech-confident guest will manage it.

Kululu pricing: watch the free-plan catch

Kululu's pricing is per event, as a one-off fee, and - this matters for UK couples - it is quoted in US dollars, with taxes added on top at checkout. At the time of writing there are two paid tiers: Plus at $39 (up to 500 photo and video uploads and a one-month upload window) and Pro at $99 (unlimited uploads, plus custom branding, a custom event URL and moderation tools). Kululu itself pitches Pro as the plan "built for big weddings", so a full-size wedding realistically means the $99 tier.

The free plan is the part to read carefully. It caps you at 100 photo and video uploads, gives guests a 24-hour window to upload, keeps the album for 7 days, and saves everything in standard rather than original quality. For a wedding, 100 uploads is still only a handful of guests' worth, the 24-hour window means photos from the drive home or the morning after can miss the cut, and the seven-day expiry means you have to download everything quickly. In practice, a real wedding needs a paid plan.

What couples say about Kululu

Kululu is generally well liked, sitting at roughly 4.1 out of 5 across several hundred reviews at the time of writing. Guests love the slideshow, and couples love how little effort it takes to set up.

The recurring gripes are worth knowing before you commit. Some couples report the app being occasionally buggy; others find it less customisable than they expected; and a common theme is frustration with the free plan's limits only becoming obvious mid-event. As one Reddit thread put it, it is "more affordable... but it also seems a lot less customisable." None of these are dealbreakers, but they are the trade-offs of a simple, one-size-fits-all tool.

Where Kululu falls short for UK couples

Two things stand out if you are getting married in the UK:

• It collects, but it does not organise. Kululu gathers everything into one album and plays it as a slideshow - but that is where it stops. There is no way to automatically sort the photos by the people in them, so a week after the wedding you are still scrolling through a thousand unsorted images to find the ones of your gran.
• It is a US product priced in dollars. Dollar pricing plus VAT at checkout makes the real cost hard to predict, and your guests' photos are handled under US, not UK, terms - something to think about if data privacy matters to you.

Kululu is a solid choice if your priority is the live photo wall on the night, you are comfortable with dollar pricing, and you are happy to do your own sorting afterwards. For a smaller, more casual celebration where the slideshow is the star, it does the job nicely.
