Sometimes face recognition creates separate groups for the same person, or detects faces you'd rather not see. Here's how to manage them.
Merging Two People
If the same person appears as two different groups (e.g., "Person 3" and "Person 7" are both Uncle Keith):
- Go to the People section
- Select the first photo of the person
- Enter the person's name and save
- Select the other photo of the same person
- Start typing the person's name
- Select the person from the dropdown menu
- Confirm the merge
All photos from both groups will be combined under one person.
Why Merging is Needed
Face recognition might create multiple groups for one person when:
- Lighting conditions vary significantly
- The person is wearing glasses in some photos but not others
- They appear at different angles
- Photo quality varies
Hiding People
To hide a person so they don't appear in the People view:
- Find the person you want to hide
- Click the person's thumbnail
- Select "Hide this person"
Hidden people:
- Don't appear in the main People view
- Their photos still exist in your gallery
- Can be unhidden at any time from Settings
- Won't be included in "by person" downloads
When to Hide
Consider hiding:
- Wedding staff or vendors you don't need to track
- False detections (non-faces detected as faces)
- People who appear in only one photo
- Any groups you find distracting
